Since upgraded to ubuntu 11.10 I'm going true a learning curve ..
It is well known fact that the new Gnome is less user friendly when it comes to customisation. The easy way out was to look for another distro , try cinnamon or any other solution rather then confronting the challenge.
Eventually, I decided to confront the challenge and become more knowledgeable in the "How-to" field. for now, small changes giving me a sense of achievement .
I didn't like the unity concept even b4 trying it and it seems to me that it will not change, so I just removed it out of the way . now I'm learning how to use the gconf-editor and the dconf-editor and such and it's really fun.
